"Add Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly to the ever-growing list of Eagles head coaching candidates.
According to two league sources, the Eagles have already met with Kelly, who has a 28-11 record in three seasons in South Bend, including a 12-0 regular-season mark this year. Notre Dame's season ended Monday night with a 42-14 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game in Miami, and the Eagles met secretly with Kelly the next day. Kelly then left the country and remains overseas, one league source said.
Sports Illustrated on Wednesday evening quoted Notre Dame sources as saying they expect Kelly to return to South Bend and not join the NFL ranks.
Kelly becomes the 13th known candidate to replace Andy Reid, fired last week after 14 seasons as head coach of the Eagles.
Of those 13, Kelly is the third college coach the Eagles have interviewed. They also interviewed Chip Kelly, who returned to Oregon, and Bill O'Brien, who returned to Penn State with a pay raise.
